The Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God is a miraculous icon of the Mother of God, one of the most revered by the Orthodox Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic churches.

The origin of the icon is not clear. The icon was written in ancient Byzantine writing, so it could have been created either in Byzantium or in Bulgaria.

In 1597, it was presented to the monastery by the wealthy widow of the Lutsk zemstvo judge Anna Goyskaya, who owned Pochaev in the second half of the 16th century.

According to church legend. Once, several monks tried to find refuge in Volhynia - and when one of them climbed to the top of the hill, he saw the Blessed Virgin there. Surrounded by a fiery halo, the Heavenly Queen stood on the mountain, pointing with her hand at the stone at her feet. At first, the man was frightened and ran headlong down the slope, but soon he was imbued with the greatness of the Mother of God and, together with his companion, began to pray, asking to guide them on the right path. The third eyewitness to the amazing vision was a shepherd grazing a flock of sheep nearby. After some time, the Mother of God disappeared - however, the imprint of Her foot remained on the rock, from which a healing spring gushed. Later, the monks founded a new monastery there, where pilgrims and ascetics converged. The icon is made on a woodworking machine from wood - cherry, hornbeam or pear. material - wood Size 25x20cm.
