Pysanka is a unique attribute of Ukrainian Easter. Traditionally, it is an egg (the purest chicken), which is decorated with aniline paints and wax. The unique ornaments make the pysanka not only an Easter decoration, but also a talisman that was kept throughout the year and longer.

With the passage of time, new techniques began to appear in pysanka’s making - for example, scratching or acid etching. I suggest you inform yourself with an Easter egg made using the drilling and embroidery technique.

By the way, the symbol depicted on this Easter egg is a “star”, sometimes a “rose” or “rosette”. It symbolizes the sun and the morning star. Once upon a time in pre-Christian times, in folk symbolism it was an unchanging symbol of love. Giving an Easter egg with that sun meant declaring love. However, everyone forgot about this ′love′ symbolism long ago and the star became one of the most popular Easter ornaments.
