Statue of the Gorgon Medusa

In Greek mythology, Medusa Gorgon is one of the three Gorgons, daughters of the god Pontius and the sea nymph Keto. She met her fate at the hands of the hero Perseus, who, using Athena′s shield and the goddess′s clues, managed to decapitate her. After Medusa Gorgon′s death, her head was used by Perseus to defeat other enemies. Medusa′s head, according to legend, retained its power even after death, causing terror and amazement to those who saw it. Medusa has the ability to turn living creatures to stone with her gaze. This makes her a dangerous creature to be feared and avoided.
