Svarga-swastika
Anyone who has been to Sophia of Kyiv could not help but notice the frieze of the altar right under Oranta′s feet, decorated with nineteen mosaic crosses of various shapes. The most interesting among them are the eight classical swastikas or church ′hamadion′ (gamma). The swastika symbolizes the 12 holy apostles.
From time immemorial, in Ukraine, classic swastikas are called svarga. In the Western regions it is also known as swastika, or happiness.
The people of Trypillia loved this symbol the most. The most popular among them were four, six and eight-beam quarrels.
According to Slavic mythology, Svarog is the god of fire, the god of all gods, the ruler of the world. Its banner is the cross-svarga, ie the solar disk from which equilateral rays depart in four directions of the world.
