Swarga Swastika
Those who have been to St. Sophia of Kiev could not help but pay attention to the frieze of the altar right under the feet of Oranta, decorated with nineteen mosaic crosses of various shapes. Of the greatest interest among them are the eight classic swastikas or the churchly ′gammadion′ (gamma). The swastika symbolizes the 12 apostles.
From time immemorial, in Ukraine, classical swastikas are called svarga. In the western regions, it is also known as swastya, or happiness.
Trypillians loved this symbol most of all. The most popular among them were four, six and eight-pointed swargs.
According to Slavic mythology, Svarog is the god of fire, the great god of all gods, the lord of the world. His banner is a cross-svarga, that is, a solar disk, from which equilateral rays radiate to the four cardinal directions ..
