Swarga-swastika
Anyone who has been to Sophia of Kiev could not help but notice the frieze of the altar just below the feet of Oranta, decorated with nineteen mosaic crosses of various shapes. The most interesting among them are the eight classical swastikas or the church ′gammadion′ (gamma). The swastika symbolizes the 12 apostles.
For centuries, in Ukraine, classic swastikas have been called svarga. In the western regions it is also known as swastika, or happiness.
The people of Trypillia loved this symbol the most. The most popular were four, six and eight-pointed swargs.
According to Slavic mythology, Svarog is the god of fire, the god of all gods, the lord of the world. Its banner is a cross-svarga, that is, a solar disk from which equilateral rays depart in four directions of light.
Brass, casting. Reconstruction.
